Graduate Building Surveyor

BPG Architects + Surveyors are seeking an enthusiastic graduate to get their career started by joining our busy team of Architects and Surveyors at our town centre office in Dorking, Surrey.
This role will involve working closely with other members of the Building Surveying team, gaining a wide range of experience on professional instructions and construction projects within all sectors. The candidate will be expected to work/assist colleagues on projects at all stages of the design and construction process, from feasibility through to construction.
The ideal candidate will have recently graduated with an RICS accredited degree in Building Surveying (or equivalent qualification in a related construction field) and looking to begin their career as a Building Surveyor. They will also have excellent communication skills and a true desire to learn their craft and develop into a professional within the wider Construction Industry.
Key Requirements:
- RICS accredited degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related field.
- Looking to begin your APC.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and AutoCAD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, hard-working with a willingness to learn.
- Must be a UK resident and able to commute safely to and from our office and building sites in your own vehicle.
- Ability to work independently and assist colleagues on multiple projects.
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Assisting with site/condition surveys
- Managing varied projects with senior colleagues
- Attending building sites and monitoring progress
- Assisting with party wall instructions
- Preparation of planning and building control applications
- Liaising with clients and contractors
- Preparation of AutoCAD drawings
- Carrying out administrative tasks
Our office is located in the historic Old Kings Head Court which dates from the 16th Century and is located in the heart of Dorking town centre. Our characterful office provides a conducive working environment, with Dorking’s town centre and three railway stations all within a 15 minute walk.
We have a diverse workload of new build projects, cladding remedial works and refurbishment projects with construction values of £1m-£20million. As a practice we are signatories of the Architects Declare movement and intend to embrace the RIBA 2030 Challenge to achieve net zero carbon emissions in our design approach.

Architectural Assistant (Part 1 or 2)

BPG Architects + Surveyors are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Architectural Assistant (Part I or II) to join
our busy team of Architects and Surveyors in our central Dorking office.
We are looking for a driven team player who is keen to improve their knowledge of UK building regulations and
the planning process as well as developing their technical design skills. Previous experience in technical drawing is
advantageous as is the ability to manage workloads and meet deadlines set by project leads. The ideal candidate will
have good communication skills and be able to prioritise tasks and site queries as required.
Good knowledge of Revit is an advantage but further training will be provided. This role is best suited to independent
workers of a resourceful nature who are punctual and happy to assist their colleagues. The ideal candidate will be
willing to adapt to our in house processes and naming conventions. Interest in sustainability and innovative design is
a plus as the role will offer an excellent opportunity to learn about the industry developments from our experienced
sustainability champion.
Key Requirements:
- Relevant RIBA Part II certified qualification
- Good command of English, both written and spoken.
- Experience within the residential, educational and commercial sectors would be beneficial.
- 3D digital modelling skills are desirable, experience of Autodesk Revit is beneficial.
- Good understanding of planning and UK building regulations.
- Willingness to learn, work hard and be flexible.
- Ability to work on multiple projects at the same time.
- Must be UK resident and able to commute safely to and from our office in Dorking, Surrey and building sites in your own vehicle or on public transport.
- Enthusiastic about sustainable design.
